Australian firefighters said on Friday they were working to control a wildfire that has spread to a national park in the country. The fire has already burned 74,000 hectares of the Grampians National Park, an area the size of Singapore.
AFP reported from Sydney that the eastern state of Victoria has been experiencing extreme bushfire conditions over the past week. At that time, dozens of villages were evacuated due to numerous fires.
State control center spokesman Luke Hegarty said that the fire has so far burned 74,000 hectares of the Grampians National Park, 240 kilometers west of Melbourne.
He told Australia's national broadcaster ABC, "We are talking about a fire that has burned an area roughly the size of Singapore. The intensity of the fire is starting to come under control. However, it will take more time to control the blaze, which is more than 360 kilometers in the Grampians.
Authorities said that although homes were damaged in the fire, no reports of casualties have been received so far.
